You can find most of the codes on the following sites:

    Language codes

    See http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/English_list.php

Use ISO 639-1 code first and ISO 639-2 code only if the first one is not available.

    Region codes

    See http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/country_names_and_code_elements

Note that region codes are always capitalised.

    Forming an IANA code

IANA code consists of the language code and optionally a region code separated with dash '-'. Region code is optional and is not required, however it can be used to separate languages in different countries or regions e.g. Spanish or Portuguese are examples of languages that can vary on different regions.

Finnish spoken in Finland would be 'fi' but in more detail you could also define 'fi-FI'

English in Great Britain would be 'en-GB'

English in US would be 'en-US'

But just plain English would be 'en'

You can find IANA codes also on this site:
